Being a new mum

I don’t know how long I have as my little bubs is sat doing the longest far you have ever possibly heard lol. I was thinking about writing this post at 5am the other morning. Having been bfing my little one since birth I had had no problems until last week when it started to hurt and blisters appeared. Having self diagnosed myself on the internet, as that is always the best thing to do, I decided me and bubs must have thrush. After a dr visit and seeing a bf specialist this is not the case…. phew! The problem is bubs isn’t latching on properly, now yoou would think that after thousands of years babies would be able to do this quite easily but no it is a skill you and bubs have to learn. Different positions, mouth wide open etc. And this is only one of the many things I have had to learn in the last eight weeks. Reading Baby Whisperer I had to put it down as found myself comparing my life with that of someone who obviously was very good at instilling complete routine into their lives, which I have never been so good at. I can’t wake my baby up at 7 every morning or put him to bed at 7pm every night, that’s just not me so how can I expect my little bubs to be like that? Said book got thrown across the room as it made me feel like I was being a bad parent already, only 6 weeks in!
The other thing I have found is that you have to know how to work a lot of things. I have sof ar had to read instruction manuals for: Play gym, bouncing chair, cot, crib, buggy, car seat, how to put car seat in and out of car and in and out of buggy. Due to soreness I decided to read out to use a manual pump, in order to use said pump I had to learn how to use my steriliser I had purchased. In order to then feed my bubs out of a bottle I also had to read how to put a bottle together. It is hard enough trying to learn what your baby wants when he is cranky or crying without having to learn how to use so many pieces of equipment that you will probably never use again and flog for less than half the price you paid.
What makes me laugh is that I prepped so much for the labour, read all about the different pain relief options, if I needed a C section, which I did, what it would involve, attended birthing classes which involved deep breathing and relaxation exercises. So me and hubby were well prepped for the birth. However everyone says is that nothing can prepare you for a new baby. And it can’t, the amount of reading there is to be done on not only all said appliances, but also making sure your baby is developing at the right time, what games you should be playing with them and googling baby classes, its crazy. There should be a baby school you can attend during your 9 months of pregnancy which preps you for everything and anything. You are on autopilot like never before, the thought of 8 hours undisturbed sleep fills me with more joy than having a night out on the town, and for those of you that know me you would think I’d prefer the latter but no definitely not. My previous job stood me in good stead, long shifts, nights and days and little thanks for a hard job
Saying all that to see him growing every day and smiling at me for pulling faces I haven’t pulled since I was at primary school is definitely worth the hard slog. I’m lucky too that my hubby loves cooking and has made nearly all of my meals since Christmas. If he wasn’t here I’d either be a size 20, eating lots of crap, or a size 8 as I’d have no time to eat! I know my blog says this is about spirituality and how it fits in with my life and I haven’t mentioned it on this occasion. I still do my angel cards and have decided this year I need to learn patience! It still exists in my life but at the moment I won’t be writing exclusively about it. It may crop up time to time but until then I will be writing about the most important things in my life and at the moment that is my family
Bubs is quite chilled in his bouncy chair at mo but it is nearly bedtime, for him and me

Angels- Not just for Christmas
24 Jan 2012 Leave a Comment
I have been trying to write this blog for the last week, but I have a 5 week old baby who every time I sit down to write begins to whimper. Either that or I’m just too exhausted by the end of the day. These night time feeds are hard to get used to lol. However I digress.
At xmas I received a book from my mam. Normally we dont buy each other books as we don’t know what the other has read. Last year she bought me Lady Cottinghams Fairy book as thats what she thought I was into. This year, she got the theme right but I’d already read the book. It was ‘Angels in my Hair’ by Lorna Byrne. I read it a couple of years ago whilst in Australia. I had really enjoyed it and unknown to me she had written a sequel. Said book went back with my mam and she ordered me the sequel instead. I read this whilst feeding my baby so read it quite quickly. I love Lorna’s humility and honesty when she writes. I knew I had to write a blog post after reading it. When I first became spiritually aware/ starting on my journey I was told by a psychic that she saw me using angel cards. That was the first I’d heard anyone mention angels so I was a tad sceptic. Having read various books on the subject and asking the angels for help with many things I came to believe that we all have a guardian angel who tries to steer us on the right path. I also believe that there are other angels out there who specify in certain areas of your life, be it relationships, careers, love, life in general. I know its difficult for some people to believe in things that you can’t see, my husband is like that. Yet he can’t dispute some things which have happened. He asked the angels to look after me and little bubs, and also asked for proof. One way angels prove they are around is by leaving feathers. Now this morning he asked for proof, he went into the utility room and our cat had eaten a bird leaving feathers everywhere. Coincidence? My mam read the Lorna Byrne book and when she had finished headed downstairs to the kitchen and on the floor in the dining room was a white feather. Again you can call it a coincidence if you like, but why not try it? You have nothing to lose.
The book ‘ Stairways to Heaven’ was for me a gentle reminder that I should continue to ask the angels for help. Last year was a tough year and I got out of the habit of doing so. I believe that sometimes life has in store for you certain things and no matter what you ask for you don’t always get it. A friend of mine recently went skiing. She was working really hard last year and this was her first break for a while. I text her to ask how the trip had gone, this was her first time skiing. On her second day she had had an accident and couldnt ski for the rest of the holiday. She’s home now and off work for 2 weeks. She had asked the angels to keep her safe and she said they obviously had other plans for her. I said maybe she needed the rest and thats why it happened. Everything in life happens for a reason, good and bad. The bad can be tough to deal with at times.
Angels aren’t just for xmas, they are around 24/7 for whenever you need them. You don’t have to talk aloud to them, you can do it in your head. Just be aware that whatever you ask for has to be for the highest good of others. To begin with you can ask your guardian angel for help with whatever issue is bothering you and go from there. Some people have written about parking angels. Next time you’re heading to the supermarket ask the angels to help find you a car park space near the front of the store and see how you get on.
Let me know if you have any stories on angels or experiences you have had, I’d love to hear them.

2011-How was it for you?
23 Nov 2011 Leave a Comment
I know it seems early to reflect back on 2011- but before you get tied up with christmas, work and celebrations take a minute to reflect back on this year so far. How has it been for you? Are you counting down the days to 2012 as you just want this year over with? Or are you quite sad to see the back of another year? For a lot of people that I know this year has been one of challenges. Events or situations that have arisen to stretch you as a human being and make you wonder what life really is all about. When you get to what you feel is the very bottom, the only way you can go is back up. It’s really hard when you are in the middle of a situation and you don’t feel as if you have any control over it. It’s easy for the rest of us to look at people and judge their situation and say ‘well I would have done this or that’. For that person though it is up to them to come to their own decisions. These challenges we face in life are merely experiences, or life lessons that we have to learn in order to move forward. Without the bad bits how would you appreciate the simple good things in your life?
There is a phrase that I found whilst writing my Reiki manuals this year and I have found it beneficial during these challenges/experiences. It is this:
‘We are not human beings having a spiritual experience;
but spiritual beings having a human experience’
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
I will leave that with you for the moment.

Trance Mediumship
06 Oct 2011 Leave a Comment
Having heard of trance mediumship a few years ago I have always been interested in what it is. Today I was privy to seeing trance mediumship in action. I won’t mention names as it’s not fair to those involved. Let me just say it completely differed to what you see when someone is working as a medium.
When you see someone connect with spirit on a mediumistic level, that person is still present and very much aware of what is going on around them. It is still their voice that you hear and if you ask them a question they tend to answer it. When you see someone go into trance it is like a deeper connection is made with spirit. It is very difficult to explain but the spirits that came through today brought a lot of peace with them. Their words were eloquent as if they came from a different era. The voices of the people had a slight twang as if they were from a foreign place. The spirits literally take over the body and mind of the person sitting in the chair. Facial expressions seem to change, and sometimes the faces looked a bit different. We had singing and rhyming and at no point did it feel threatening or dangerous. It was just a different way of communicating with spirits. Like I said it is difficult to explain but if you ever get the chance to go and see someone who does trance mediumship I would highly recommend it.
It was fascinating to watch and I feel very touched to have been able to observe this. Seeing the blue energies above their heads as they were in trance also amazed me. Blue energy is to do with spiritual activities.
Till the next experience

Mind, Body and Soul Fairs- Have you been before?
21 Sep 2011 Leave a Comment
This weekend is the Mind, Body and Soul Weekend at the East of England Showground, Peterborough. In the 5 years I have lived here, this is the first time such an event has taken place, that I am aware of. Having attended various events around the East of England region I am looking forward to this weekend. Whenever I attend I always find something new to try or someone new to talk to. There are a range of experiences, as well as gifts to buy. Included this weekend are also a number of free talks from various speakers. These talks range from tarots cards to angels, looking forward to 2013 and looking back at past lives. For a £5 admission charge there is plenty that you can get out of this day. You can have astrology readings done, psychic surgery performed, tarot readings, reiki session ( with yours truly
) or pick up a crystal or two.
So if you’re at a loose end this weekend and have even the slightest interest in complementary therapies, holistic healthcare or spiritual matters why not pop in?
Being thankful
17 Sep 2011 Leave a Comment
“Gratitude is the best attitude”
Have you ever noticed that people who are happy rarely have anything to grumble about? The more thankful you are for things you currently have in your daily life, the more things that come into your life to be grateful for. Even if it is simple, little things that you are thankful for it is worth saying a silent thanks for what you have. Recently I have come to realise how important my family is to me. Since finishing university my priority was to have a good job, to strive to the top of where I wanted to be. I didn’t realise at the time that having spent 5 years of my life with the same company I had probably spent a lot more time there than I had with my family. I have been trying to make it up to them since
. I am looking forward to spending my first christmas at home this year, all things being well, without getting home on christmas eve at nearly 9pm and having to think about heading back out on boxing day morning at 7am.
I am extremely thankful for my hubby without whom I wouldn’t be able to do this. I was thinking about it today and I thought to myself I am thankful for all of the experiences I have shared with him over the last 3 years, both good and bad.
I am thankful for simple things too. I was out walking a few weeks ago in the village where I live. In my village people are very trusting. I have over the last few weeks paid 80p for a bagful of home grown tomatoes which were beautiful, made a small donation to Oxfam for several bramley apples, which I made into a tart, picked up some free apples where a family have too many and rather than waste them leave them in a box for people to help themselves and also helped myself to numerous free blackberries from the field where I walk my dog. For all of this I am thankful, and it would be lovely if more people shared what excess food/ produce they grew rather than waste it.
The more thankful you are in your life for simple pleasures, the more you will attract into your life. So if you have taken the time to read this then just take a minute longer to offer a silent thanks for the things you appreciate most in your life. If you need help I have written a small list of things I am thankful for.
1 My gorgeous husband 2 My family 3 My friends 4 My dog, Hugo and cat, Sox 5 Having a lovely home 6 my newly established veg garden which has given me carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and plenty of lettuce 7 Chocolate
8 My health 9 good food 10 having Reiki in my life
This is just a sample, your list may be different but just give thanks for one thing a day and you’ll soon find you attract more of the same. As the unknown author said below:
“If a fellow isn’t thankful for what he’s got, he isn’t likely to be thankful for what he’s going to get”
Signs
22 Aug 2011 Leave a Comment
How many times have you heard someone say ‘all i want is a sign’. Whether it is a sign that you should go for a promotion, or move house or whatever other significant event there is in your life. Sometimes these signs can hit us in the face, other times because we are so wrapped up in the problem we don’t often see them.
A friend of mine is a believer in angels and various spiritual themes. She recently came to stay with us and was going through a bit of a rough patch. She said that she had been asking out for signs to help her resolve the issues. When she started telling us some of the issues, from an outsider point of view there had been loads of signs. However because she was caught up in it she didn’t notice them. It made me wonder how many times we ignore signs on a daily basis and if we took notice of them would our lives be any different?
Once my friend had resolved her issues she told me how she had kept seeing butterflies. She had been giving a butterfly necklace as a present for her birthday. She had seen butterflies in her garden and had received abutterfly birthday card. Butterflies are a sign of rebirth and new beginnings. I found it interesting how when she was having problems she couldn’t see any signs, but when her mind was clear and issues resolved they were as plain as the nose on her face.
You can see signs in different ways. They may be animals you keep noticing, numbers, colours, people etc. I kept noticing robins when I was walking the dog, usually when I had a lot of stuff on my mind. It wasn’t just in December either, this was in summer time too. When I read up about robins some people believe they are sent to cheer us up when we are down.
Signs can be hidden in dreams too. It is up to the dreamer to interpret these dreams. Again said friend told me about a dream she had whilst staying at mine which involved the 7 of spades and the ace of diamonds. In tarot these translate as the 7 of wands and the ace of pentacles. Reading the tarot meaning out to her was very poignant to her situation and again she took it as another sign.
So next time a number keeps cropping up or you keep seeing the same animal look it up and see if its a sign that you have been asking questions to.
Mediumship
04 Aug 2011 Leave a Comment
I decided last night to write a blog on mediumship. This was after my monthly outing to the Psychic and Spiritual Fellowship in Peterborough. I have been going there for just over 3 years now and it never fails to amaze me the messages that mediums deliver. Mediums for those who don’t know act as an interpreter if you like between the living and the dead. They can see/hear/feel spirits. I do believe in mediums having seen many over the years, and having a husband who is practising. When I was younger I remember reading a book which I had borrowed from my Grandma. It was by a lady called Doris Stokes. She was a medium who had written about her experiences. I found it fascinating and I think my belief in the afterlife or that there is something else after you die started then.
Some people will believe in heaven, I always argued heaven would be too crowded for everyone on earth. Some people believe in reincarnation, which I do. I don;t believe that you come back as a spider if you do something really bad in this life but I do believe that you don’t necessarily just have this one life and that’s it. I think you need to come back to learn different lessons.
Back to the mediums. Over the last 15 years I have seen a change in attitude towards mediums. They have been popularised due to programmes such as Most Haunted. Derek Acorah, I find a tad OTT to be honest but thats his way. Sally Morgan is very good, but a tad too empathetic. David Wells I think is excellent and professional as is Tony Stockwell. What I think is more impressive though is your average Joe Bloggs who is learning to develop their mediumship in order to help people. When people pass away suddenly you feel cheated as though that person was taken too early. So to see a medium who tells you that person is OK, it’s almost a sense of relief, you feel more at peace. Or to hear that your mam/dad/son/daughter whoever you were close to is around you and watching over you can provide you with a sense of comfort.
I went to see a couple of fortune tellers at Newcastle’s town moor when I was younger. I crossed their palms with silver in the hope they would tell me lots of good things which would eventually come true. I was 17 at the time. One told me I’d pass my driving test first time. Imagine how disheartened I was at the tender age of 19 when I had already failed 3. I eventually passed on my 7th attempt
The same lady told me I’d live until I was 97, I’m not holding out much hope for that.
After that ladies failed attempt at predicting my future I didn’t really look into mediums until 2008. Most people go to see a medium when they have lost someone close or they are at a crossroads in their lives. I was the latter. She told me I would meet someone in November and have a whirlwind romance, followed by moving in, marriage and then kids. 3 years later and we are nearly there
. She told me my grandad was with her, and told me things even I didn’t know and had to get clarified by my dad. Sometimes mediums will say things that may not make sense to you, and you leave thinking well she/he wasn’t very good. When you speak to close relatives though about the reading it makes sense. I’ll give you an example a few months ago my Great Uncle Johnny came through. The medium started telling me how she could see a really big, pretty tree. No-one in my family has big trees so it made no sense. She was saying he was close to this tree. When I spoke to my dad, he ahd gone with my uncle and aunty to scatter his ashes in a place called Ponteland. They had started to scatter them next to the village sign, but a load of people came along so instead they went into the village and scattered his ashes next to a really big, pretty tree. Coincidence? I’ll let you make up your mind.
Just remember if you have a reading or someone comes through to speak to you make sure you know a bit about them and can say yes or no with confidence. If it doesn’t make sense speak to those around you, chances are someone else will know.
So to all my medium friends out there or practising mediums keep up the good work

2012- the end of the world?
09 Jul 2011 Leave a Comment
As REM sang ‘It’s the end of the world as we know it’ or is it? Googling 2012 hundreds of websites appear with their particular theories around next year, well Dec 21st to be precise. It is the end of the Mayan calendar and people have said the reason it finishes then is because the world is going to end.
I have read several books on the subject, and some even to me are slightly out there but the main feeling I have when talking to people is that rather than the world ending there is a massive energy shift happening. Some people say nothing is going to happen, I have been invited to the event on facebook but as yet have declined the invitation.
I don’t know if its the circumstances that I find myself in or that I have drawn many people to me who are very spiritual and interested in things such as life after death, psychics, Reiki, sound healing, crystals etc but I do believe over the next year people will become less materialistic. During the 80′s it was a case of I want that and I’m going to get it, and people still have that, to an extent. But what I am hearing a lot of is I just want enough to survive. Are people changing the way they are thinking? Or is it due to the circumstances in the economy that people are thinking this way instead? There is a definite change in peoples way of thinking. I can’t pinpoint it exactly and I don’t know why, but maybe just maybe this is to do with whatever is supposed to happen next year.
I am sure there will be some, let me call them ‘randoms’ who are extremists and will be wanting to force their beliefs down peoples throats about how the world is going to end and you must repent all your sins etc. I won’t be doing that. Mistakes are made for you to learn from. Neither will I be cowering in my house waiting for the world to end. Instead I will just wait to see what happens. If it is the end of the world as we know it then I have loved every, well nearly every minute of it and I don’t regret my time here one iota. If its not the end of the world then I will carry on enjoying my life for what it is with the fabulous people I have around me.

Everything happens for a reason, or does it?
22 Jun 2011 Leave a Comment
Having spent most of today travelling back from Newcastle I found myself asking the question everything happens for a reason, or does it? We spent an hour in a 10 mile tailback on the A1 today due to a chemical spillage on the road. Luckily we managed to turn off after travelling 1 mile in an hour. However, we had to head towards Lincoln, before coming back on ourselves to head to Peterborough. This meant we got back two hours later than we should have done.
So my first question is if we were supposed to be delayed by 2 hours, then what was the reason for it? Or was it a case of we were just caught up in it and for some people they needed to be delayed for a particular reason? I’m thinking Sliding Doors style here, you miss the train and you have one life, you catch the train and your life is altered. Albeit slightly but enough to make a difference. Is that what happened for us today? Or someone else? And what about the driver of this supposed chemical spillage? Maybe he’s been thinking of leaving his job for a while and this was the straw that broke the camels back. All very presumptuous of me I know but you just don’t know do you.
Next time you’re stuck in a queue or you’re cursing because you’ve missed a bus, think about it. Is it really a blessing in disguise? Do you meet someone that you haven’t seen in years? Do you smile at a stranger and just get chatting? Have you seen The Adjustment Bureau? Matt Damon has a life path. He’s supposed to stick to it, but he meets a pretty girl. She also had a life path but didn’t stick to it. As neither of them were sticking to their life paths, intervening forces tried to step in to correct it. They need them to go back to their path for their lives to pan out as they should according to their path. They don’t do this though. I won’t spoil the ending in case you haven’t seen it, but it’s another one of those films which make you question the reasons sometimes for long delays or ‘intervening forces’ which may pop up when you least expect them to.
Any comments appreciated
